Cinnamon is the inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree. A highly pungent spice, the bark is dried, thick and brownish in color. Thin long rolls of cinnamon are used for gravies. It has a sweet taste, and is added to puddings, pies, some varieties of wine, rice varieties, fruit masalas, cakes and stews.
A decoction of cinnamon is good for coughs and colds. Cinnamon contains fats, carbohydrates, ash, fiber, iron and phosphorus. It is also good as a mouth freshener. Cinnamon paste can be applied for spots and headaches.
