Chin-Lushai Expedition
Chin-Lushai Expedition of 1889-90 was launched into the Chin and Mizo Hills. The expedition was intentend to bring the whole area under the British control and also to construct a road from India to Burma. There were two columns from the Indian side - the northern column and the southern column. The expedition was lead by the command of Brigadier General F V W Tregear. There were 177 Bengal sappers and miners, 1,122 men of the Bengal infantry, 1,148 solders of the Gorkha rifles, 731 men of the Bombay infantry, and 202 Chittagong frontier police in the expeditionary force. In addition to this, 400 men of the Cachar Military Police under the control of Daly, DIG of Police, was attached to the northern column.
