Chhaya

'Chhaya' literally means 'Shade.' In the Puranas, Chhaya is a handmaid of Surya. Sanjna, the wife of Surya gave her to him, since she herself was unable to bear his heat and fervor. She had three children by him, Shani, the Manu Savarni and a daughter, the Tapati river. Chhaya has the name Shani-prasu, since she is the mother of Shani. There is also a version that Chhaya was another daughter of Vishwakarma, and the sister of Sanjna.
