Chhat Songs

Chhat Songs are sung during the famous Chhat festival of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. These songs are dedicated to Goddess Chhati and the Sun God.

On the occasion of the festival, women go to the river or pond and wait for the sunrise. During the sunrise, they sing these songs. These songs are usually sung by a woman longing for a son. This song also contains the prayer for a long life of the son.

On the sixth day after birth of the boy, a special worship ceremony called 'Chhati puja' is held. The Chhat songs are sung during this ceremony.
