Chennai Egmore Railway Station



Chennai Egmore Railway Station is an important railhead of the Southern Railways. It is connected with cities and towns to the south of Chennai such as Madurai, Rameshwaram, Tirunelveli, Tiruchirapalli and Tuticorin. Located in the heart of the city, the station offers centralized railway reservation facility. There is a tourist information cell that helps foreign visitors.

Close to the station, there are travel agents and tour operators offering services. The offices of Indian Airlines, British Airways and Kuwait Airways are situated in Egmore. Several hotels are located near the railway station to cater to the needs of visitors. Hotel Pandian (2 star hotel) is situated just opposite the railway station. Government Museum, St Andrew's Church (Queen of the Scottish Churches in the East) and National Art Gallery are the main attractions in Egmore.

Buses run by Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation (TNSRTC), Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation (TTC) and Jayalalitha Jayaram Transport Corporation (JJTC) link the city with major destinations. There are private bus companies to help the passengers arriving at the railway station. Chennai International Airport is about 20 km from the heart of the city.
