Chaturangui

Chaturangui is an Indian adaptation of the Western Slide Guitar. Also called the Hindustani Slide Guitar, it is suited for a musician playing Indian classical music. Its playing strings are so arranged that a player can place this instrument on his lap and play, while sitting on the floor in the typical Indian manner.

The Chaturangui contains 6 primary strings, similar to the western slide guitar, and additional 4 supporting strings, 2 drone strings and 12 sympathetic strings. The sympathetic strings generate a tone similar to the Sitar.
