Chanauli



Chanauli is a historic village which lies 10 km west of Kiratpur Sahib, Rupnagar District. Tradition has it that Guru Har Rai, the seventh Sikh Guru, purchased this village in 1661 from the ruler of Bilaspur. This site was popularly known as Charnauli.

Sacred to Guru Hargobind and Guru Har Rai, Chanauli is one of the major pilgrimage centers for Sikhs. There is a beautiful Gurdwara known as Gurdwara Guru Har Rai Sahib Patshahi Satvin. Built in 1977, this shrine draws a large number of devotees. Gurdwara Baba Gurditta is easily reachable from here.

Kiratpur Sahib Railway Station is the nearby railway station. The nearest airport is at Chandigarh.
