Chaimal Tribe

Chaimal is a sub-caste of the Kuki community. The Kuki community had migrated to Tripura from Mizoram. The Chaimals are mainly found in the sub-divisions of Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Amarpur, and Udaipur. The main source of their living is Jhum cultivation. Like the Kukis, people of Chaimal community also wander from one place to another in search of Jhum land. The community constitutes of only a few families, which has had the negative effect that they have been nowhere in the census reports since 1961.
