Cascara (Rhamnus purshiana) is a small tree found in forested areas. The bark of the tree is thin, silver-gray and bitter.
Cascara shows laxative properties and is useful in curing constipation. Fruits come in blue-black or purplish-black berries, enclosing three stony seeds and are edible. Cascara grows in dry to wet and frequently shady sites, and most commonly in mixed woods.
