Caraway

Caraway is an annual or biennial glabrous herb. Roots are fusiform and thick. Stem is slender and the branches are grooved and hollow. The leaves are pinnately- dissected. The flowers are in dense white umbels. The schizocarp of fruits is yellowish brown in color and oblong-oval in shape.

Caraway grows wild in Himachal Pradesh. It is cultivated in the hills (as summer crop) and in plains of North India (as annual winter crop).

Caraway oil is used in food products and medicine (as carminative).
