Caladium




Caladium is an herbaceous perennial plant with tuberous rhizome, seen in warm humid conditions. It belongs to the family Araceae. There are about 16 species recognized in this family. Caladium bicolor, Caladium humboldtii, Caladium picturatum and Caladium schomburgkii are some varieties coming under this catogery.

This summer plant is mainly cultivated for its beautiful and attractive foliage. Its peltate-segittate leaves are seen in variegated green, blue green, dark green, light green, spotted with white, red and transparent white. Caladium is easy to grow well in moist but porous soil. Propagation is achieved through division of the tuberous rhizome and rarely by seeds.
