Calabash (Crescentia cujete) is a small tree with spreading branches found in tropical India. It belongs to the family Bignoniaceae and is a native of West Indies.
The tree is characterized by spongy bark, oblanceolate leaves and solitary, pendulous flowers (yellowish purple in color). It likes humid conditions, but can tolerate drought conditions. The fruit pulp has medicinal values and is used to cure respiratory problems.
