Cajuput Tree is an evergreen tree of small or moderate size with pendulous twigs. The bark is white, soft, spongy, peeling off in elongated papery flakes. The flowers are small, creamy white.
The oil of Cajuput (Oleum Cajuputi) is used in medicine. It contains cineole, dipentene, sesquiterpenes, azulene, sesquiterpene alcohols, valeraldehyde and benzaldehyde. The oil is used internally as an expectorant in chronic laryngitis and bronchitis. It is also effective against lice.
