Burhigundak River originates from the western extremity of the Somesvar hills near the Harha pass in the
Himalayas. On its tortuous course, the river travels about 435 km in the plains. Finally, Burhigundak merges with the
Ganges near Khagaria in
Bihar.
Burhigundak‘s only tributary on the right bank is the Dhanauti, which rises in a lake in Champaran. The Burhigundak adopts different names at different places. It is known as Harha at the foot of the hills and as Sikrahna in the district of East Champaran.
