Brown-winged Kingfisher




Brown-winged Kingfisher (Halcyon amauroptera) is a very large (36 cm) brown and orange coastal kingfisher with a huge red bill. It is brown above with the blue limited to the rump and lower back. The bird lacks the dark brown cap of the species and has orange-buff on the head and underparts. It is rarely seen inland. It nests in self-excavated bank tunnels.
