Brown Gorgon




Brown Gorgon (Meandrusa gyas gyas) is an attractive butterfly, which is found predominantly in Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The head is dark brown in color. The abdomen is dark brown dorsally and sides are lighter.

The wingspan is around 10 to 12 cm. Dark brown colored upper forewing, with broad dark outer border bearing a row of faint yellowish spots is seen in male. In female, it is dark brown with white discal band, which becomes yellow near the costal and is broken into patches.

In north-eastern states, Brown Gorgon is used for creating decorative articles.
