Brahmi




Brahmi is a medicinal plant, alternatively called Bacopa. The plant is a creeping, succulent herb that branches profusely at the nodes. The succulent leaves with inconspicuous veins produces branches in their axils. The fruit is an ovoid capsule with a persistent Style.

All parts of the plant are used in making medicines. The herb contains the saponins, monnierin, hersaponin and bacosides. Brahmi is prescribed for fevers, and is used in contusions, boils, sprains and fractures. In India the plant is used for all sorts of skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, abscess, ulcerations. It is held that brahmi can stimulate the growth of skin, hair and nails. The plant is also used in the treatment of mental disorders like epilepsy, insanity and memory loss. Bacosides have been proved to be responsible for improving intellect and memory.
