Brahmanas
Brahmanas are religious scriptures containing details of vedic ceremonies for the guidance of the Brahmans. These are considered to be the oldest prose writings in the Indo-European language. These ritual texts also give instructions on the use of particular verses and metres, and describe the importance of prayers, offerings, and their correct observance. Important brahmanas are the Aitareya Brahmana, Shatapatha Brahmana, Kaushitaki Brahmana, Taittiriya Brahmana and Chandogya Brahmana.
