Bose Institute

Bose Institute is one of the earliest, perhaps the first modern, research institute in India. It was founded by Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, F.R.S., in 1917 with the purpose of investigating fully "the many and ever opening problems of the nascent science which includes both life and non-life". The Institute conducts research in the field of plant sciences, molecular biology, astro/radiation physics, structural biology, bio-medical, bio-informatics, and bio-technology. The centre now focuses on the study of genetic engineering, biocrystallography, biocomputing, molecular modeling, genome analysis, molecular modeling, plant genomics and proteomics, protein folding and threading, and biomolecular structure and recognition. The Institute is engaged in organizing seminars, conferences, and lectures, runs a library, and supports research works of universities, institutions, and industries. Prof. Maqsood Siddiqui, a cancer research scientist, is the present director of the Institute.
