Blyth's Kingfisher (Alcedo hercules) is a seldom seen, medium sized (22 cm) kingfisher with longer bill. The bird lacks the orange ear-coverts of the Common Kingfisher. The female has red at the base of the lower mandible. The call is louder and hoarser.
The bird perches inconspicuously in low branches overhanging water. It is a common resident in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Sikkim.
