Red Godwit



Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is a large wading bird with a very long straight bill and long blue-gray legs. The neck, breast and belly are brick red in breeding plumage and off white in winter. The back is mottled gray.

Its size varies from 40 to 44 cm. During flight it displays a white wing-stripe and a black and white tail. Nest is built on the ground, usually in short vegetation and lays three to six eggs. The bird feeds on insects, worms and snails.

Black-tailed Godwit can be seen in the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Rajasthan.
