Black-Oil Plant




Black-Oil Plant (Celastrus paniculatus) is a large, woody, climbing shrub and is found almost all over India, up to an altitude of 1,800 m. The leaves are ovate, oblong-elliptic. The flowers are unisexual, small, and greenish white or yellowish green. The seeds, ellipsoid or ovoid shape, are enclosed in scarlet aril, which stains yellowish orange.

Black-Oil Plant has emetic, diaphoretic, febrifugal and nervine properties. It is used for sharpening the memory, and also used to cure sores, ulcers, rheumatism and gout.

It is also known as Intellect Tree.
