Black Necked Stork




Black Necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus) has black and white body plumage, glossy dark green and purple neck and massive black bill. It is 129 to 137 cm in height. The legs are long and coral-red in color. The female is differentiated by its yellow eye. It is also called Jabiru or Policeman Bird.

The bird resides in wetlands, such as floodplains of rivers with large shallow swamps and pools, and deeper permanent bodies of water. Diet consists of fish, small crustaceans and amphibians.

Black-necked Stork can be seen in the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Rajasthan.
