Bittideva Vishnu Vardhana founded the Hoysala Kingdom in 1106. He emerged victorious over the Chalukyas of Kalyani, Ganges of Ganga Devi, the Kadambas of Mysore, the Cholas and the Pandyas. His kingdom comprises the entire part of Mysore, Salem, Coimbatore, Bellary and Dharwar districts.
