Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany




Located in Lucknow, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany carries out research and development activities in non-vascular plants, mesophytic/cenophytic evolutionary botany, planktonology, biodiagenesis, radiometric dating etc. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art infra structures like Scanning Electron Microscope, Ultratome, Transmission Electron Microscope, Section Cutting and Polishing Machine, Image Analyser, and Liquid Scientillation Counter. The Institute invites young scientists for training and research works in palaeobotany and allied disciplines. Outstanding scientists are awarded with Birbal Sahni Professorship and Emeritus Scientist award. Professor Jamuna Sharan Singh, Ph.D, Professor of Botany and Coordinator, Centre of Advanced Study in Botany at the Banaras Hindu University, is the Chairman of the Institute.
