Bheemunipatnam Port lies at latitude 17° 54'N and longitude 81° 27'E on the southern bank near the mouth of river Gosthani, about 30 km north of the
port of
Visakhapatnam. In the colonial period, it was the main sea trading port on the eastern coast of India.
Located within the tidal zone, it has its anchorage 2 km from the confluence of river with sea. The port has a 13m depth contour, 2 km from the shore. It has the facilities of an old wharf and light house and offers the advantage of closeness of deep water from the shore.
