Beypore Port is 10 km south of
Kozhikode. It is midway between two major ports,
Kochi and
Mangalore. The port is an estuarine port that gratifies the needs of coastal sailing vessels and vessels moving between mainland and
Lakshadweep Islands.
Beypore port had trade connections with Europe, Arabia and the ports on Indian coast. It had also remained as the base port for Laccadive group of Islands (Androth, Agatti, Kavaratti, Suhelipar and Kalpeni). Now, it exists as the base for machine cum sailing vessels of Lakshadweep. A boat-building yard here is famous for the construction of country crafts called uru. The port has a 100 m wharf. About 7 km from the port is the Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary.
