Bardhuliya




Bardhuliya is a folk art performed in Darrang District of Assam. It is performed by 10 or more men known as Dhuliyas (drummers). The beating of the drum and dancing takes place simultaneously. The highlight of the dance is the acrobatics performed with the Bardhol.

Bardhol is a cylindrical percussion instrument played during the performance. The dhol is about 1 meter long and 0.5 in diameter.

Bardhol is played during Deul festival in Spring, the Mothenee festival in Kati month, Durga festival (middle of October) and during other important ceremonies.
