Bahura Chauth falls on the fourth day (Chathurthi) of the Krishna Paksha. This observance is associated with the legends of Manasa, the goddess of snakes, and Behula who succeeded to resurrect her dead husband.
The idols of calves made of soil or sattu is worshipped. People eat Bahuri or Bati, a special type of food prepared from barley, on this day. It is considered highly auspicious to distribute seven types of fried crops to the Brahmins and the poor on this occasion.
