Bahadur Shah I was the eldest son of Mughal emperor
Aurangzeb. He was a generous but weak ruler. He ascended the throne after a usual war of succession. He was originally named Muazzam and assumed the title of Bahadur Shah after the coronation. During his reign, Bahadur Shah I tried to keep peace with the Hindus. But the general political atmosphere and the limitations of his realm made it almost impossible. He died in February 1712 at Lahore, after a brief reign of five years.
