Back-striped Weasel




Back-striped Weasel has thin silvery dorsal streak extending from the occiput almost to the root of the tail, and a yellowish ventral streak from the chest along the abdomen. The body color varies from deep to paler chocolate brown, sometimes a little paler on the head and usually slightly darkened along the side of the dorsal streak.

The tail and limbs are similar in color as dorsal body surface. The upper lip, the chin, and the throat are pale varying from whitish to ochre. The sole of the feet are naked. The length of the body is around 285 mm and the tail 152 mm.

The Back-striped Weasel (Mustela strigidorsa) is common in West Bengal, Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh between 1000 and 2500 m altitudes.
