Azhvanchery Thamprakkal



Azhvanchery Thamprakkal was a pious Nampoothiri, who once ruled the Athavanad panchayath near Valanchery. He belongs to an old and famous family of Shaivite Brahmins - Azhvancheri - who lived in the Malappuram District, in Kerala.

Azhvanchery Thamprakkal was a great patron of mathematics and astronomy and under his benefaction the region had developed into a leading center of learning in the state.

In the famous Brahmandapuranam by Thunchath Ezhuthachan, Azhvanchery Thamprakkal had been mentioned as 'Netranarayanan'. The acharya had written that he composed Brahmandapuranam, under the instruction of the Thamprakkal.

Azhvanchery Mana, the palace of the Thamprakkal, is situated 2 km north of Thirunavaya, in Malappuram District, Kerala.
