Azad Hind Fouj was the former name of Indian National Army (INA). It was established by
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose with the help of the Japanese during the freedom struggle against the British. The slogan of the army was ‘Jai Hind,’ an abbreviated form of ‘Jai Hindustan’. The army also had a women's contingent. The headquarters of Azad Hind Fouj during the Second World War was
Moirang in
Manipur. On April 14, 1944, Netaji hoisted the INA flag here for the first time in the Indian subcontinent. It was in
Kohima District,
Nagaland, the Azad Hind Fouj started its struggle for freedom with the help of Nagas.
