Ayyannar Horse is a fine example of pottery used for religious purposes. These terracotta horses are made in
Tamil Nadu. Larger variety of this pottery is made in
Salem and
Pudukkottai Districts.
This horse shaped pottery is believed to protect a village from the consequences of an evil eye. In the traditional method, this pottery was handmade. With the increasing demand, it is now made in commercial basis using molds.
