Awadhi




Awadhi, a dialect of Hindi, is an ancient Indo-Aryan language with considerable literature. It is the language of Avadh region in Uttar Pradesh. Since the ancient name of Avadh was Kosala, this language is also called Kosali. It is spoken by the Awadhis tribal group and some speakers of Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. The literary works of the Eastern Hindi are in the Awadhi language. The famous ‘Ramcharitmanas’, written by Tulsidas, was composed in this language.
