Avatutura is a place situated near
Kovalam, about 18 km from
Thiruvananthapuram. It was at this place Mavarattappattu (
Mahabharata in old
Malayalam) was written by poets, Ayyipilli Asan and Ayyinipilla Asan. A smaraka mandapam has been constructed here in memory of those poets.
