Arulmigu Balasubramanya Temple

Arulmigu Balasubramanya Temple is located at Periyakulam in Theni District. This temple dates back to the time of the Cholas and is said to have been constructed by Rajendra Chola. The temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga.

Legend has it that, once Rajendra Chola was here and he killed a pig which was feeding its piglets. Since the piglets were hungry Lord Muruga fed them. On seeing this, the king constructed the temple in the remembrance of the divine event.
