Art of Body Painting
The ancient art of body painting in India is known as Henna or Mehendi. It flourished in India, Middle East, and North Africa. Thick paste of henna leaves is used for painting. Painting the body with henna paste is an ancient practice followed in India during festive and special occasions such as weddings. It is used in creating contemporary designs and exotic patterns on various parts of the body, though conventionally applied to the hands and feet of women and dancers. This is now used for medical purposes and also as a hair dye.
