In India there is no provision of 'Visa on Arrival' and no fee is charged for immigration facilities at the airports. Foreign passengers should be in possession of a valid Indian visa before they start their journey to India. Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not require visa to enter India and nationals of Maldives do not require entry visa for a period up to 90 days. However TLF (Temporary Landing Facility) / TLP (Temporary Landing Permit) is issued to a foreigner arriving without an Indian visa in emergency situations like death or serious illness. This facility can also be extended to transiting foreigners who have confirmed their onward journey tickets within 72 hours.
If the visa for stay in India is for more than 180 days, a Registration Certificate and Residential Permit should be obtained from the nearest Foreigners' Registration Office within 15 days of arrival. For registration purposes four photographs are required. The foreigners have to report change of their addresses. All persons including Indian nationals are required to fill in a Disembarkation Card, at the time of arrival in India.
Immigration check is done for all passengers and the passports are duly stamped on arrival. Passengers should verify that their passports are duly stamped before leaving the immigration counter. Foreign tourists should carry their yellow fever vaccination certificate which conforms to International Health Regulations if they are originating from or transiting through Africa or South America.
