Arnath is the 18th tirthankar of the Jain community. He was born to Queen Maha Devi, wife of king Sudarshan of Hastinapur in Uttar Pradesh. At birth, the boy was named Ara Kumar.
After ascending the throne after his father, Arnath ruled his kingdom for some years. One day, Arnath was thinking about the ever changing seasons which inspired him to become an ascetic. He attained omniscience after severe penance and spiritual practices.
Arnath attained Nirvana at Mount Parasnath (Samet Shikar). He had around 30 disciples. Jain Tirthankaras are generally identified by their symbols; Fish is the emblem of Lord Arnath.
