Arjuna is a large, evergreen tree, with a spreading crown, buttressed and fluted stems, and drooping branches. Gray or pinkish green bark is very thick and smooth. The leaves are sub-opposite, oblong or elliptic, coriaceous and cordate. The fruits, ovoid or ovoid-oblong in shape, are almost glabrous.
The bark is considered as an anti-ischemic and cardioprotective agent in hypertension and ischemic heart diseases, particularly in disturbed cardiac rhythm, angina or myocardial infarction. It has a diuretic and a general tonic effect in cases of cirrhosis of the liver. Arjuna is cultivated in many parts for shade and ornament.
It is also known as Kakubha and Kahu.
