Anju Bobby George is renowned as the first Indian athlete to win a medal in World Athletics Championship. She made her first achievement in the field of sports by winning a bronze medal in long jump at the World Athletics Championship, 2003 in Paris.
Anju Bobby George was born on April 19th, 1977 in Cheeranchira Kochuparambil family in Changanacherry, Kerala. Schooling was done in St. Ann's High School and CKM Koruthode School. She completed her graduation from Vimala College. She has won many prizes at school level and national school level games. She was the Calicut University Champion during her college days.
Anju attained the national record for triple jump in the Bangalore Federation Cup. She won several prizes in South Asian Federation Games, Busan Asian Games, National Circuit Meet, Ludhiana National games, and Hyderabad National games. She is the first Indian woman to win a bronze medal clearing 6.49 m at the Commonwealth Games held at Manchester 2002. She was awarded the prominent Arjuna award (2003) for her achievement in World Athletic meet.
The credit for her success goes to her husband and coach Bobby George who realized her potential and gave encouragement to achieve the goal.
