Angirasa Smriti

Angirasa Smriti is an ancient text specifying the code of conduct to be followed by a Hindu person. This book deals with method of repentance, rejection of the indigo plant, purification methods and the kind of person from whom food should be taken.

There is a special mention of the method of repentance. According to this text the repentance should be according to committed sin. The types of vows to be observed are also mentioned. This book states that repentance of the sins is an important step towards achieving the four main goals in life, which are ‘Dharma’, ‘Artha’, ‘Kama’ and ‘Moksha’.

One unique thing about Angirasa Smriti, compared to other similar texts, is the mention of the indigo plant. This plant is notorious for making the land infertile. The use of this plant or its product is therefore considered unholy.

Angirasa Smriti, although being small in size, helps in guiding a person through its moral principles.
