Angada was the son of Bali, the monkey king of
Kishkinda. Bali was killed by
Ram. Later Angada became the protégé of Rama. When Ram and his army entered Lanka, Angada was sent as a messenger to Ravana asking the latter to surrender Sita before Ram. Angada planted his foot firmly on the earth and challenged everyone in Ravana’s court to move his leg an inch. He announced that if anyone could achive the feat (that is, move his foot) Ram would return whithout Sita. The enemies tried their might, but the foot did not budge.
