Set on the forest area around Khodala, it spans an area of about 15 acres. The rarest species of flora and fauna of the Sahyadris are found in this sanctuary. Among the common species found are jackals, striped hyena, bison, antelopes, wild boar, monkeys plus a host of other animals and reptiles. There are also rich varieties of bird life including the orioles, black drongos, magpies and robins.

For accommodation purposes, Mountain Range Wild Camp has four cottages and two tents. Deobandh Temple is situated 2 km from the camp. Upper Vaitarna Dam, 20 km away, is another picnic spot.

By road, Amala Wildlife Sanctuary can be approached on the Mumbai-Nasik Highway. It is about 120 km from Mumbai.
