Almond (Latin name, Prunus amygdalus) is widely distributed in
Jammu and Kashmir. The plant has oblong-lanceolate, minutely serrate leaves. The flowers are solitary, pink or nearly white and showy.
Almonds are used for pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. Almond kernels are highly nutritious, demulcent and stimulant nervine tonic in indigenous medicine. It is also recognized as lithontriptic and diuretic.
It is also known as Vatadha and Badam.
