Aligator Yam is distributed in
Bihar,
Orissa,
West Bengal,
Assam, and in the regions along the western coast. It is mostly found in moist areas, monsoon forests and coastal tracts. The plant is a perennial climber with large, ovoid and tuberous roots. Flowers are campanulate.
The roots are used in male infertility and inflammations. The plant is also used for ornamental purposes. Aligator Yam is also known as Giant Potato, Milky Yam, Vidari and Vidaarikand.
