Started in 1988, Akshay Pratishthan is a voluntary organization at
Vasant Kunj in
New Delhi. It provides rehabilitative services for the disabled persons through education, medical care, vocational training and self-employment.
The school provides educational needs with classes from nursery to class VIII. Intra / inter school competitions including music, arts and crafts, sports and banner writing are arranged. Skill training is a part of the curriculum. National Institute of Open Schooling has facilities for secondary examinations.
Medical facilities include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetic workshop, yoga and nature care and panic healing unit. Regular medical checkups and diagnostics are performed.
There is a vocational training unit, where training is offered in weaving, textile designing, embroidery, art and craft, bakery, beauty culture, carpentry, electrical repair and computer. The unit imparts training to mentally as well as physically disabled persons, according to aptitude and potential. A special wing is here for slow learners.
Akshay Pratishthan has another branch at Chirawa in Rajasthan. The place is accessible from Indira Gandhi International Airport or New Delhi Railway Station.
