Agneeswarar Temple




Agneeswarar Temple is a Shivasthalam located at Annur, near Mayiladuthurai, in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. The temple was built by Chola rulers. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple enshrines Agneeswarar as the presiding deity along with his divine consort Goddess Parvati.

Legend has it that Agni worshipped Lord Shiva at this place.

Arudra Darisanam is the annual festival celebrated here amid much pomp and splendor. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine every year.

Punthottam Railway Station, on the Mayiladuthurai – Tiruvarur railway line, is the nearest railhead.
