Mandakini River, also known as Paisuni River, is an important tributary of the Ganges River
. It rises from the Chorabari Lake, also known as Gandhi Sarovar
. The river is only 82 km-long. Mandakini is considered a sacred river by the Hindus. At Rudraprayag

joins Mandakini and the confluence of these two rivers is an important pilgrimage for Hindus. It has several places of pilgrimage on its banks such as Chitrakoot, Rudraprayag and Kedarnath.
